Construction Management Office Tower "Tower 185", Frankfurt. Contruction Time: 2008 – 2011

The Next Generation of Highrise

Centrally located between the trade fair, the main railway station and the banking district, one of Frankfurt’s largest high-rise buildings, Tower 185, was built. It marks the entrance to the Europaviertel and is in the direct vicinity of the Skyline Plaza lifestyle centre and the Kap Europa congress centre.

Tower 185 consists of a horseshoe-shaped plinth building with a natural stone facade. Rising up out of this structure are two multi-storey sections with an aluminium-glass facade that enclose a central glass structure. Together they form the actual tower. The complex was designed by Frankfurt architects Prof. Christoph Mäckler Architekten. According to Mäckler, the architectural symbolism stems from a rematerialised modernist design epitomising both timeless elegance and a sustainable use of increasingly scarce resources.

Tower 185 comprises modern, efficient work areas of the highest quality. The highly flexible structure with its generous room height of 3 m throughout permits all kinds of modern office designs throughout the entire building: the classic office cubicle, the efficient open-plan office, or the attractive combination office.

The international auditing company PricewaterhouseCoopers AG (PwC) has chosen Tower 185 as its new Frankfurt headquarters and has signed a long-term lease for some 65,000 square metres. Besides offices, the six-storey plinth building (completed in November 2010) houses the conference centre and the employee canteen of PwC. A central, urban entrance square leads into the six-storey foyer, thereby joining the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage with the Europaviertel.
